As if REACH was not enough for exporters of chemicals to the EU to content with, from 1 December 2010 a new regime for the classification and labeling of chemicals for supply in the EU will also commence. And it’s really new: new symbols, warning phrases, criteria; larger and more colorful labels, too. Some chemicals not subject to labels under the old classification and labeling regime will now need labeling; some chemicals with relatively mild warnings will be labeled in a much more severe way. And yes, this all costs money. To mitigate the expense the new regime will be phased in (anyone also involved with REACH will have heard that one before).
